Scouts and Parents, The Annual Troop 11 Ski trip is planned for February 5-6, 2022 at Mount Snow in Vermont. This trip is one of the highlights of the year and many scouts will tell you this is their single most favorite trip of the year. Once again we will be skiing at Mount Snow and staying at the West Dover Congregational Church.

We will leave Friday evening Feb 4. We will stop for dinner at Five Guys in Springfield, Mass and then continue to Vermont. We stay at the West Dover Congregational Church and sleep on cots in the church basement…..its a lot nicer than it sounds as there is a full kitchen, bathroom with shower and a big flat screen TV. We will ski Saturday and Sunday and return home early Sunday evening. As the church sleeps 30 people, family members are welcome to attend once all the scouts are accommodated.

The cost for the trip will be $220 for youth and $265 for adults. This price includes a 2-day all-mountain lift ticket, 2 nights of lodging, 3 meals on Saturday and 2 meals on Sunday. If you are an Epic pass holder the lift ticket cost will be deducted from the price of the trip. Equipment rentals and ski/snowboard lessons can be purchased directly from the Mount Snow website. Everyone must wear a helmet.

A sign-up genius will be distributed. The deadline to sign up will be February 1 as the Troop will need to purchase food for the weekend. If you cancel after Feb 1 you will be responsible for the cost of meals and lodging ($65).

Also this is a great opportunity for scouts to work on the Snowsports merit badge. While at Mount Snow, scouts can complete the on-snow portion of the badge and can complete the off-snow portion of the badge at other times. Please let any of the adult leaders know if you want to work on the merit badge.

Hope you will attend. Any of the boys will tell you, the apres-ski back at the church afterwards is half the fun.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,

Mr. Rankin

Hello Troop 11 Scouts & Families!

Last night the Rankin family graciously hosted our Troop at their home with a fire to keep us warm on the final day of February. We began the meeting with time for patrol advancement, and then used the rest of the meeting time to alternate stations that included plank walking, a spider web activity, and a tarp challenge.

On Sunday, our Life Rank scouts met to plan our March weekly meetings. We also created a sheet for patrol leaders to log and monitor scout rank advancements. We expect non-leadership scouts (Scout, Tenderfoot, & 2nd Class Rank) to get a requirement signed off at least once a month (more requirements are highly encouraged). We created this to make sure that everyone is progressing within the troop, as we want to make sure that every Scout can join leadership eventually and experience the other further ventures such as the Order of the Arrow that come with these achievements.

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered or is signed up to help with our colonial maple syrup method station at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center maple syrup festival!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

MARCH TRIP: High Ropes Adventure (More details to follow soon!)

APRIL TRIP: Appalachian Trail Hike (More details to follow)

May 13 - 15: ConnJam - State-wide Scouting Jamboree in Orange, CT. Troop 11 builds and oversees a giant monkey rope bridge!

JUNE TRIP: Block Island, RI (This trip is a Scout favorite and has not happened since 2018 due to Covid, we camp on the beach and since space is limited it is important to participate within the troop to ensure a spot.)

Spring is approaching and Troop 11 is in full swing with the many trips ahead. Have a great week everyone!

Best,

Michael Faherty
