Hello Troop 11 Scouts & Families!

Tonight we had our annual swim night at the Italian Center, where scouts had the opportunity to get aquatic requirements completed while having some fun swimming indoors during the cold winter season. A huge thank you to the Italian Center for letting us swim tonight and I hope that everyone who went had fun, it was a great way to kick off our 2022 scouting season!

Also to keep in mind, due to rising Covid cases in Connecticut we are now going to be requiring masks when indoors, so always remember to bring your scoutbook, a pen, and a mask to meetings.

Bloody Monday Prep Part 1

Hello Troop 11 Scouts & Families!

On Monday, we had quite the agenda! It consisted of initial preparation for our Bloody Monday recruiting event, an election for Order of the Arrow candidates, and finishing off with a Troop 11 classic game, captain on deck. For those of you who are unfamiliar with Bloody Monday, it is our main recruiting event where Cub Scouts come to the fire house and think of ways to treat severe injuries with lifelike scenarios, skin prosthetics, and fake blood to make the experience seem almost real. Our Italian Center Swim-Night meeting was also a success, with scouts getting the multiple aquatic requirements signed off and enjoying the warm water on a cold January night.

Also a huge congratulations to Wellington, Michael F, Albert, & James C for being elected as Order of the Arrow candidates! The OA is the prestigious honor society for scouting and is a First Class and above exclusive achievement that you can obtain through completing ordeals and proving how you stand out from other scouts by living the Scout Law & Oath daily.

The winter weather is really hitting us and it is very important to dress appropriately in the event that we have to be outside for a longer period of time (Bloody Monday will most likely be outside unless there is snow) so remember to bring your book, pen, mask, and dress appropriately!

Bloody Monday Prep Part 2

Hello Troop 11 Scouts & Families!

Given COVID-19 related circumstances, we are not able to meet at the Firehouse until further notice, so a huge thank you to the Beck Family for hosting our troop tonight and providing us with a warm fire. This past weekend was the Powahay District Klondike Derby, hosted by our Troop for the first time ever. Our scout and adult leadership team dedicated so many hours of planning and zoom calls, and it ended up being a huge success with tropical themed activities in the snow, ice, and 1° weather for those who slept overnight. Thank you to Jack Huntoon and Aaron Bailey for cooking food to keep us warm and thank you to Matt Rankin and the other members of leadership for stepping in when our SPL had to go home early.

Troop 11 came home victorious winning 1st place in the stations, (although we accepted 2nd in order for it to not seem rigged) but no worries as we have the duplicate first place ribbon. We have an extreme surplus of beautifully designed patches by our very own Mr. Janocha that I will bring to our next meeting (Bloody Monday) for anyone who wants one. This was a team effort and thank you to everyone who helped us make this a huge success!

That being said, our next meeting is our top recruiting event Bloody Monday. The location will be determined very soon and we are excited to see how our patrols perform their planned skits for the Cub Scouts promoting first aid and emergency preparedness.

 Team Building Games

Hello Troop 11 Scouts & Families!

Last night the Rankin family graciously hosted our Troop at their home with a fire to keep us warm on the final day of February. We began the meeting with time for patrol advancement, and then used the rest of the meeting time to alternate stations that included plank walking, a spider web activity, and a tarp challenge.

On Sunday, our Life Rank scouts met to plan our March weekly meetings. We also created a sheet for patrol leaders to log and monitor scout rank advancements. We expect non-leadership scouts (Scout, Tenderfoot, & 2nd Class Rank) to get a requirement signed off at least once a month (more requirements are highly encouraged). We created this to make sure that everyone is progressing within the troop, as we want to make sure that every Scout can join leadership eventually and experience the other further ventures such as the Order of the Arrow that come with these achievements.

Thank you to everyone who has already volunteered or is signed up to help with our colonial maple syrup method station at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center maple syrup festival!

UPCOMING EVENTS:

MARCH TRIP: High Ropes Adventure (More details to follow soon!)

APRIL TRIP: Appalachian Trail Hike (More details to follow)

May 13 - 15: ConnJam - State-wide Scouting Jamboree in Orange, CT. Troop 11 builds and oversees a giant monkey rope bridge!

JUNE TRIP: Block Island, RI (This trip is a Scout favorite and has not happened since 2018 due to Covid, we camp on the beach and since space is limited it is important to participate within the troop to ensure a spot.)

Spring is approaching and Troop 11 is in full swing with the many trips ahead. Have a great week everyone!

Best,

Michael Faherty
